Laaaazy

Hello!

I insist! Grab a chair! (Or sit on the floor with me)

I'm London-bound yet again in less than a month! Summer went by in a flash, and I've done nothing in the past three months but laze around like a catttt. Meow. I've also neglected this blog quite a bit, so to all of my two readers (my mum and .. you (thank YOU THANK YOU)) I owe you a big fat, slobby, chubby Sorry Kiss. Thanks for sticking around! :)

Well I've become a Professional Lazing Around-er. It takes a lot of work, but after a while, you'll get there too. My mummy always says: Dream big!

The Summer Essentials : Books/magazines (or both!), food, sunnies. 1, 2, 3 ready, set, relax.

Oh so yesterday, I made ricotta! *yodels like a milkmaid.. heh heh.... (groan). Milkmaids yodel right? When they're done milking? Hm. Things to ponder over while I laze. Anyway! I did the math- 1 litre of milk+1 cup of yoghurt+vinegar+salt=1 cup of ricotta. Oh dear. I was already daydreaming about the pans and pans of lasagna and tarts and cheesecake I could make by making my own ricotta. But that would mean ALOT OF MILK. Boo. Oh well, it was fun and strangely satisfying making my own cheese. I mean, who does that?? Perhaps I should try mascarpone next. Apparently all you need is cream and lemon juice and you're ready to go. Aiyo, but I think it might use the same equation as the ricotta- a whole lotta stuff->a whole lot of nothing. :( It's like the Idiot Law. Sigh. Do you know how much that stuff costs in the supermarket! :( *watches butterfly escape purse* Umm ok.. hold on while I snap out of Auntie Mode.

Ricotta & honey, tea, a granny smith, passionfruit and milanos.

Anddd since I was in the groove of making Supermarket Market Stuff, I made Milano cookies too. You gotta know them cookies! THE Pepperidge Farm cookies, dark chocolate sandwiched between butter biscuits.. mm! I used this recipe for the biscuits. I've tried a whooole lot of sugar biscuit recipes before, but I think this one is the best- it keeps its shape well and its snappy and buttery! But if you know a better recipe, do tell me! I'm not very loyal. Heh. Actually no, I am. Sorry, sugar cookie. (Psst- I want the recipe). Oh and sandwiched between the cookies is whipped chocolate ganache. In this hotttt and humid country (and very lovely) country, chocolate ganache stands up well. It doesn't melt into a gloopy and greasy mess like buttercream and it doesn't slide off like meringue. And meringue frosting tastes kinda funny.. well, to me anyway. So that's 10 points to ganache!

Good. Good. Good. Good. Good.
Yep!

Ohhh okay and one last thing I made.. buns! Two kinds- cheddar and ricotta-filled. Unfortunately, the ricotta-filled lovelies got very.. bronze.. while I ditched them for Damages. Patty Hewes is scary, I couldn't leave. Really wan. But after a blizzard of powdered sugar, no one would have guessed a thing! All snowy-capped and cutesy again. Bless! The cheddar one turned out niiiice. NICE. But not cute.

Chomp! Burnt? What?

Okay! I'm off! Going to Malacca with my mum and grandparents tomorrow! Wheee! I want to try the chicken rice balls but I haven't heard good reviews about them. Squeezy finger marks and spit? Mm, sounds good. But I am sooo curiousss ahhh. Hygiene or kepochiness?

Bye! I will post again soon about my new line of candy-looking jewellery. Stick around, will ya? :)

Lemon Curd Cups

Sorryyy, I have no excuses, I've just been very, very lazy this summer. I have a pile of photographs that I haven't posted, just the thought of it puts me off blogging. Sorry!!

Anyway I hope maybe lemon curd cups will put me back in your good books :) To be honest, I don't like lemon curd all that much, lemon juice and egg yolks...? Um... But I made them anyway, because they looked so happy and jiggly in the magazine. And they turned out perfect! Happy and jiggly. But hm, I still don't think I'm convinced.

They are so adorable though.

Treats for an Afternoon

Have a sip of lemonade!
Roasted banana and coconut bread. I adapted the recipe from here!
I roasted the bananas with a bit of honey to make it sweeter and more banana-y, and decided at the last minute to toss in some grated coconut from yesterday's puttu mayam. :P Ooh, tropical!

Brown butter shorties from Smitten Kitchen.

The Story of You and I

Do you have some time?

Come, sit with me and have some tea. Ice-cream? Biscuits and chocolates?

Come and talk to me.

Do you like tea? Just eh? Yeah, me too. Let’s not have any, then. It’s actually tea from yesterday’s lunch. Too dark, too bitter for any good now. But yesterday- sweet and gentle and easy. Light on the tongue, warm, and happy. Oh well, I suppose you’d prefer new tea now.  Something fancy, maybe orange pekoe or earl grey?  I don’t suppose you want leftover tea from yesterday’s lunch.

But there is still ice-cream. Clean and bright, exciting, just the thing that will keep us going in this heat.

Go on, have some.  Maybe it’s the ice-creams that keep us going.

Maybe I’m like yesterday’s tea. Maybe you like new tea.

But there will always be the ice-cream.
